Why do microbes make minerals?

چکیده

Prokaryotes have been shaping the surface of Earth and impacting geochemical cycles for past four billion years. Biomineralization, capacity to form minerals, is a key process by which microbes interact with their environment. While we keep improving our understanding mechanisms this (“how?”), questions around its functions adaptive roles (“why?”) less intensively investigated. Here, discuss biomineral several examples prokaryotic biomineralization systems, propose roadmap study microbial through lens adaptation. We also emerging potential in cooperation as important components biofilm architectures. call shift focus from mechanistic aspects biomineralization, order gain deeper comprehension how communities function nature, improve life co-evolution mineral

Why Do Borrowers Make Mortgage Refinancing Mistakes?

Refinancing a mortgage is often one of the biggest and most important financial decisions that people make. Borrowers need to choose the interest rate differential at which to refinance and, when that differential is reached, they need to take the steps to refinance before rates change again. The optimal differential is where the interest saved by refinancing equals the sum of refinancing costs...

Small minerals make strong bones

Small minerals make strong bones Selectins with a catch ot content simply with a good fit, evolution has apparently designed adhesion molecules that stick optimally only when tugged upon. This property, may stop leukocytes and platelets from lingering in stagnant backwaters in the blood where there is little or no flow. Blood is a medium dominated by flow and shear forces. Metals, minerals and microbes: geomicrobiology and bioremediation.

Microbes play key geoactive roles in the biosphere, particularly in the areas of element biotransformations and biogeochemical cycling, metal and mineral transformations, decomposition, bioweathering, and soil and sediment formation. All kinds of microbes, including prokaryotes and eukaryotes and their symbiotic associations with each other and 'higher organisms', can contribute actively to geo...

Spikes alone do not behavior make: why neuroscience needs biomechanics.

Neural circuits do not function in isolation; they interact with the physical world, accepting sensory inputs and producing outputs via muscles. Since both these pathways are constrained by physics, the activity of neural circuits can only be understood by considering biomechanics of muscles, bodies, and the exterior world. We discuss how animal bodies have natural stable motions that require r...
